How to Choose a Skin Booster for Very Dehydrated Skin

For very dehydrated skin, choose a booster by the job you want it to do, not by brand name. COCO Clinic groups boosters into three jobs: hydrating and remodeling, restoring the skin's repair environment, and building collagen. Its hydrating group, Hilo Wave and Belotero Revive, is the usual starting point for inner dryness and tightness. The final choice is made at an in-person consultation, and results vary from person to person.

Skin boosters are not one treatment sold under different brand names. COCO Clinic's skin booster selection guide says the useful question is what you want the skin to do. If the main complaint is inner dryness and firmness, look at the hydrating group. If it is texture, fine lines and redness, look at the repair group. If it is thinness, pores or scars, look at the collagen-building group.

What a Skin Booster Is, and What It Is Not

A skin booster is an injectable placed into the dermis to improve the skin's condition (hydration, texture, density) rather than to add volume or change contour. Fillers work by occupying space, so they change shape and contour. Botulinum toxin works on muscle. Neither is a skin booster.

The products sold under the booster name use very different materials and ask the skin to do different things. Two clinics can therefore recommend different boosters for the same person without either being wrong. Ask what is actually being injected and what it is meant to do.

The Booster Options, and the Different Goals Behind Them

The table below summarizes selected options from COCO Clinic's current booster menu. The groups are options, not steps. The clinic notes that a longer-lasting treatment is not a superior one, because the treatments address different areas and goals. List prices are in KRW and include VAT.

Hydrating options: Hilo Wave and Belotero Revive

For dehydration, these two are the most directly relevant. They reach hydration by different routes.

  • Hilo Wave is a hyaluronic acid (HA) product that combines HA of different molecular weights in one complex. The clinic describes the heavier HA as holding water and giving structural support, and the lighter HA as signaling fibroblasts to support collagen and elastin. It is an MFDS-approved medical device in Korea, with 48 mg of HA per 2 mL syringe. The clinic suggests it for people who feel tightness and inner dryness, and for those bothered by fine lines, rough texture, or gradually declining elasticity.
  • Belotero Revive pairs HA, which draws water in, with glycerol, a moisturizing factor the skin makes itself, which holds onto it. The gel is made to spread evenly through the tissue, so what changes is skin quality, not volume. The official menu lists its key benefits as hydration and glow.

Neither is meant to fill a hollow, and how much difference you notice depends on where your skin starts.

Hilo Wave is placed in one of two ways. For overall texture and inner hydration, the clinic uses the PDIT technique, which places the product deeply at a few key points, one to five per side. For localized volume, such as under the eyes, the nasolabial folds and the medial cheeks, it uses a cannula. Which approach suits you depends on the area of concern and your skin.

Other boosters, and why they answer different questions

Dryness is often not the only complaint, and the clinic notes that most people arrive with two at once. These options address other goals:

  • Rejuran and Rejuran Eye use polynucleotide (PN), which raises fibroblast activity so the skin replenishes its own collagen and elastin. The clinic points to it for texture, fine lines and redness. It is a course rather than a single treatment, and a fish allergy must be disclosed before treatment.
  • Juvelook and Juvelook Eye combine PDLLA with HA. The HA gives immediate hydration and is absorbed within weeks, while the slow breakdown of the PDLLA is what prompts collagen production, so the change builds gradually. It is mainly considered for thickness, density, pores and scars.
  • Juveacell places a scaffold of donor dermis with the cells removed. Your own fibroblasts migrate into it, so it is considered where skin is short on structure, such as under the eyes and neck. The official menu also lists hydration and barrier strengthening among its benefits.

For a side-by-side of all the groups, see the clinic's skin booster selection guide. This article stays with dehydration.

COCO Clinic also offers Radiesse, used diluted as a collagen booster: it firms and thickens thinning skin over months rather than hydrating it, and it does not fill the way a filler does.

Factors to Weigh for Very Dehydrated Skin

  • Main concern: inner dryness and tightness, surface smoothness, texture and redness, or thin and delicate areas. Each points to a different group in the table above.
  • Skin condition: this is assessed in person, not self-diagnosed. Tell the clinic about any allergy history, blood-thinning medication, and any inflammation or infection at the treatment site. These treatments are not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Treatment area: the under-eye area is thin and delicate, which is why eye-specific versions exist (Rejuran Eye, Juvelook Eye) alongside the full-face products.
  • Product type: HA-based hydration, PN-based repair, and PDLLA-based collagen building are different mechanisms. Ask which one is proposed and why.
  • Lifestyle and schedule: most boosters are courses, so think about how many visits you can realistically attend.

Combining boosters depends on the area. In the same area, the clinic would rather do one booster well and combines two only in special cases. For different areas or goals, such as overall inner dryness and the under-eye area, they can be planned together.

Sessions, Downtime, and Limitations

The clinic's published course information is below.

  • Hilo Wave and Belotero Revive: two sessions four weeks apart. For Hilo Wave, the clinic describes this as the base course, followed by periodic maintenance. It says timings are averages and vary between people.
  • Hilo Wave timing: moisture and a subtle glow come first, collagen and elastin effects are described as clearest at around 2 to 4 weeks, and the effect is listed as lasting 3 to 6 months, with variation.
  • Belotero Revive timing: the effect builds from about two weeks.
  • Rejuran: three to four sessions, four to six weeks apart. Juvelook: usually two to three sessions, with the change building over 6 to 12 weeks. Juveacell: often done in a single session.

Downtime is usually small but not zero. The clinic says mild swelling for 2 to 3 days is normal, bruising is possible, and you should leave one to two weeks before anything important. For Hilo Wave, small bumps at injection points usually settle within 1 to 2 days, and redness, swelling and bruising typically resolve within 2 to 7 days. Avoid excessive sauna, alcohol and intense exercise on the treatment day, and contact the clinic if redness or swelling lasts more than a week or pain worsens. Injection-site infection is rare but possible. Aftercare differs by product: after Juveacell, avoid sauna and hot environments for one week; after Juvelook, avoid sauna, strenuous exercise and heavy drinking for one to two weeks.

Pricing Notes

Official list prices (KRW, VAT included) appear in the table above. Bundled plans are also listed: Hilo Wave with Juveacell 8% at ₩1,250,000, and Hilo Wave with Juveacell V at ₩1,350,000.

Planning Around a Seoul Trip

COCO Clinic is in Seoul.

For most boosters, one trip does not cover a full course. The clinic says Rejuran, Hilo Wave, Belotero Revive and Juvelook courses do not fit inside an ordinary holiday, and that one session will not show you what the whole course does. Juveacell is the exception, since it often does its work in one session. What a single trip can do is a first session plus a consultation about what the rest would look like. After you return home, the clinic says it follows up on WhatsApp and LINE about how the first session settled and when the next one should be.

Questions worth asking at any consultation:

  1. Which group and product are you proposing for my dryness, and why?
  2. How many sessions, and how far apart, would a realistic plan be for a visitor?
  3. What discomfort, swelling and bruising should I expect, and how long before an important event should I book?
  4. Are there any allergy or medication issues I should disclose?
  5. How does follow-up work after I fly home?

Results vary between individuals.

Frequently Asked Questions
